Introduction
This history of our family is the result of many years of searching.
It draws on documents found in archives, parish registers, official and notarial records, school and university papers, letters, photographs, and the memories passed down through generations of our family.
Not everything could be explained. In some places, the documents allow us to say with certainty what happened. In others, we have only clues.
There are also family stories whose truth I cannot prove today, but which I do not wish to dismiss simply because no document has survived to confirm them.
This history spans several centuries and tells the story of two families: the Frischmans and the Baranieckis.
These two families came together in 1867 through the marriage of my great-grandparents, August Frischman and Wanda Salomea Baraniecka.
I shall tell you, then, about the origins of these two families and their lives over nearly two hundred years.
About the Baranieckis and the Frischmans who lived and worked, who knew success and failure, joy and sorrow.
This is a story about us!
About our family!
